Aftermath
The 100 day long genocide and civil war ended on July 4th when RPF forces took Kigali. In the end, between 500,000 and 1,000,000 Tutsi and sympathetic Hutu were killed. It is estimated that 10,000 Tutsi were killed per day. Approximately 300,000 Tutsi survived the genocide and 400,000 children were left orphaned. After the RPF took over, they put a Tutsi president in place. As soon as the RPF took over, they began to arrest participants of the genocide. The prisons were over populated because 100,000 people had been arrested. Taxes in Rwanda would have to majorly increase in order to try all of the suspects. Rwanda's economy took a dive and is currently trying to recover with its agriculture.
